Focusing on the entire lifecycle of our packaging, we have meticulously chosen each item to ensure it fits our brand values and meets our sustainability objectives.
All our Autumn Winter 2020 packaging that contains paper is FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified which guarantees it is sourced sustainably from a forest and supply chain that is managed in an environmentally, socially and economically responsible manner, with native cultures and the local community in mind.

T-Shirts & Tracksuits
Our Natural Kraft Product Box that ship your larger Sam O’Sullivan® items is bio-degradable, compostable, recyclable and vegan friendly. We have used a minimalist white water-based print to ensure our box remains as eco-friendly as possible. It is a lightweight, plastic-free cardboard made from at least 90% recycled materials that is extremely durable. If you are looking to send something else of your own soon, we recommend you keep hold of your Sam O’Sullivan® product box to use again, and extend its life.
Baseball caps
Our two-piece Natural Arktika® Kraft Gift Box that ship your smaller Sam O’Sullivan® items is bio-degradable, compostable, recyclable and vegan friendly. It is a plastic-free, super-lightweight but durable box made from carton to minimise shipping weight and help reduce transportation carbon emissions created by heavier cardboard. If you are looking to send something else of your own soon, we recommend you keep hold of your Sam O’Sullivan® product box to use again, and extend its life.
aLL bOXES
Our eco-friendly product box manufacturer also has a ‘Clean Air Policy’ that ensures they, and those they work with, remove any toxins and pollutants from the air during the production process so that it is not released into the atmosphere. This also means that employees who work around unhealthy elements such as VOCs are kept safe too.
Our Natural Kraft Product Boxes are FSC certified.

tape & tissue
water activated packing tape
Our eco-friendly packing tape is recyclable, biodegradable and compostable. Every part is sustainable!
It is paper based with a water activated, gum adhesive backing. This means that the surface is not glossy or coated in wax to prevent sticking; allowing it to be non-toxic as well as fully compostable.
Gloss and wax is not biodegradable and do not break down in composting conditions, which is why having water-activated paper tape is much better for packaging sustainably.
Our packing tape is also made from 100% recycled paper.
acid free TISSUE PAPER
Our eco-friendly, sustainable packing tissue is made from cellulose fibre. It’s also acid free as the active acid pulp has been eliminated during processing. Our packing tissue is lignin and sulphur free as well, which prevents our ink transferring from the tissue. It is fully compostable and won’t leave any of these chemicals behind when decomposing.
Our FSC certified packing tissue is also made from at least 30% recycled materials; with the remainder from new, acid-free pulp.
tAPE & TISSUE
Our sustainable packing tape and tissue have been printed on using Soy-based Inks, a renewable resource made from soybeans. It is an eco-friendly alternative to petroleum-based inks which leave behind petroleum residue when decomposing. Soy inks also have low levels of VOCs, which reduces air pollution during the printing and drying processes.

SIGN CARDS & SWING TAGS
Our FSC Certified sign cards & swing tags are printed on uncoated, post-consumer, 100% recycled paper material, using wax-based, non-toxic Dry Toner inks which are in part, made from organic biomass. It is bio-degradable, compostable, recyclable and vegan friendly. Post-consumer waste is paper collected from recycling points, after it has been used (rather than mechanical waste which would be a by-product of industrial process).
Our eco-friendly supplier also uses a courier that is committed to making every parcel delivered carbon neutral.
Compostable MailERS
Our mailing bags are plant-based and fully compostable. They have been made using PBAT, a bio-based polymer, and PLA which is made up of plant materials such as regular field corn and wheat straw. Our supplier’s use of PLA makes up barely 0.05% of the annual global corn crop, making it an incredibly low-impact resource.
Our compostable, plant-based mailers are certified by the leading authorities worldwide; meeting American, European (TÜV), International and Australian (ABA) standards – including certifications for your domestic home compost. These are the highest international standards for composting and means that our mailers break down within 90 days in commercial compost, and 180 days in domestic compost conditions including worm farm compost. After degradation, they leave no harmful residues behind.
“This all sound great, but won’t your mailer be weaker than others?”
No, it is actually much better! All the natural, eco-friendly attributes don’t compromise the integrity or durability of our mailer, so your Sam O’Sullivan products will be as safe as ever.
Our mailers have been tested against their conventional plastic alternatives, and performed much better. They don’t break as easily at the bottom when put under heavy weight and are equally as waterproof. Instead, they are tear-resistant by stretching to distribute the weight over the whole bag, rather than in just one section. This makes them much more robust.
Please ensure you remove and recycle any adhesive labels or delivery stickers before placing your mailer in the compost; then simply put it in the compost and allow nature to do its work!

sIGN cARDS
These A5 sign cards were used in our AW18, AW19 and cut to a smaller size for our COVID-19 Mask Giveaway campaigns. They are a lovely 170gsm with our smooth orange SOS Signature logo on the front, with our socials on the rear and space for a personalised, handwritten message on the rear.
These sign cards are fully recyclable.
Moving into our AW19 collection, we decided to focus much more on each step of the sustainability loop our brand would be involved in and could be associated with. As such you will notice our products and packaging shifting to eco-friendlier, socially sustainable manufacturing and supply methods.

This tissue paper is fully recyclable.

swing tags
Our Square Swing Tags were a fantastic feature on our AW18 and Covid-19 Mask giveaway campaigns. These swing tags were a thick 400gsm with a soft raised finish. It featured our bold orange SOS Signature and social details on the rear.
This paper meets the highest standards of sustainable forestry and is fully recyclable at selected recycling facilities. If you have concerns, we recommend reaching out to your local recycler for more information.

Covid-19 Mask Giveaway
STICKERS
Our circular SOS Signature packaging stickers added additional security to our mailers and were attached to the peel & seal flap of the Orange Foil Bags; as well as on the Blank Tissue Paper we used for wrapping our garments in.
Our stickers came in black and white, were transparent and also given as a mini-gift to our customers. A great way to personalise your items with one of your favourite brands!
These stickers are fully recyclable.

Covid-19 Mask Giveaway
Mailers
Our unique orange foil bags with a matte metallic finish were our first mailer used in our AW18 collection.
Our orange theme permeated our packaging as a pop of colour to catch your attention.
We also used this small orange envelope to ship our Face Masks in our Free Face Masks giveaway during the Covid-19 Pandemic.
